Surgery Information
Unless otherwise instructed, stop current non-steroidals (Aleve, Aspirin, Daypro, Naprosyn, Lodine, Relafen, Voltaren, etc.) 2 weeks prior to surgery. Also, any Vitamin E and Herbal supplements. These may affect your blood clotting ability and anesthesia. |
Before Your Surgery
- See your family doctor for medical clearance
- Notify our office if you develop any infections or change your medical condition
- Have your pre-admission testing (PAT) done
- Consult your family doctor if you are on coumadin
- Check with your health insurance plan to be sure you have the referrals or approvals you need
- Notify our office immediately if you have a change in your insurance
- Keep your surgery appointment. If you can't, call our office immediately
Night Before Your Surgery
- Shower or bathe
- Do not eat or drink after midnight
Morning of Your Surgery
- You can brush your teeth and rinse your mouth, but do not swallow any water
- If you have been told to take any medications, take them with a sip of water. You make take medication for your heart and/or blood pressure the morning of the surgery
- Report to the hospital or surgery center at the time advised
- Bring loose comfortable clothing to accommodate surgical dressings, such as a jogging suit
- Dentures, glasses or contact lenses cannot be worn for surgery. Please bring their cases
- Leave jewelry, credit cards and other valuables at home
- Arrange for an adult to drive you home after surgery
- Ask someone to stay with you after your return home from surgery, at least for 24 hours
- Do not sign any legal documents for 24 hours after your surgery
